Even though fur-babies are super cute and fluffy, they can be harmful to those who are allergic to them. No worries! Below are some tips on how to prepare your home for when your guest with pet allergies arrive.

Give your fur-baby a bath

Giving your puppy a bath can help by getting rid of some of the allergens that are on your puppy’s coat (this is a temporary solution).

Turn on the air

Turning the air conditioner on can help clear out some of the dander in the air or maintain the humidity levels at a low.

Dust ahead of time

You should always dust the house a day or two beforehand. Do not dust the day of your guest’s visit. Doing so can lift debris or dander into the air and make it worse for your guest. A day or two should be enough time for the dust to settle.

Roll those rugs up!

Rugs and carpets collect a lot of your puppies allergens/dander so it’s a good idea to put them away until your visitors leave.

Vacuuming will be your best friend!

You should vacuum at least 3 times a week to lower the allergens in your home. Keep in mind to change the vacuum bag every use. If you forget to change or empty the vacuum bag, the chances of it actually picking up the debris or dander lowers. Vacuuming can be tedious but doing so will help keep the dander controlled.

Clean areas you normally don’t

Dander is airborne—this means that it may travel from room to room which means it can be found in places you least expect. Dust the shelves, the top of the doors, frames, pillows, etc.

Don’t leave clothes laying around

Believe it or not, your puppy’s dander sticks to clothes and leaving it around can easily transfer onto your furniture and eventually your guests. Your best option is to put it to wash to get rid of any potential dander lying around. This ensures your clothes is allergy proof!

Clean your air

The best way to clean your air is with an air purifier. Locate the most used room in your home and place the air purifier in that area for 48 hours before your guest arrive. It’s also a good idea to place it in other areas that you think your guest will be spending substantial time.

Let them know about your furry friend

You should always let your guest know that you have pets before entering your home. Remind your guest that you have taken the necessary precautions to make your home as allergen free as possible.
